The IMG and the Vietnam Solidarity Campaign

The International Marxist Group was central to the anti-Vietnam War movement in the late 1960s.

In this article, from Socialist Outlook no 7 May / June 1988, Pat Jordan and Tariq Ali place the movement, and the role played by the IMG, in its political and historical context.

However, the Bulletins issued by the VSC at the time speak for themselves with numerous signed articles by individuals who will be well known to readers of this Blog- as well as Ali and Jordan, Ernie Tate, Ralph Schoenman, Ken Coates, Tony Topham, Bertrand Russell…

A hand written note on the back page of V1 no3- Special Conference Edition, attempts to estimate the relative strengths of the different groupings within the VSC…

Have a couple of later issues somewhere, including the last copy of the magazine “Vietnam” and a couple of issues of its successor “Indochina”. I shall try and look them out and send to you.

That would be fantastic, Tony. I have one issue of Indochina- no 27, newspaper format. Thanks to Keith White for that.

HelloTony did you live in the flat in flat in Park Avenue North in early 71? Good times.

Hi Alan, only just picked up on your comment. Made one attempt to reply by leaving a further comment, but just noticed the “reply button”. Yes, I lived there, it was a shared house with such notables as Peter Gowan, John Suddaby, Dave Kendall and Debbie Dodge. Others stayed from time to time, such as Ron Thompson and Peter Graham as well as many comrades from other sections of the FI who may have been passing through London at the time. I do remember you, as you say, good times.
